Milk Thistle - Milk Thistle has a long folk history of successfully addressing chronic liver conditions which have been confirmed by scientific study. Extracts of Milk Thistle are widely used in Europe. There they are employed not only as therapy for liver conditions but also as a daily form of liver protection.
Bupleurum - The roots of various Bupleurum species are well-known as medicinal plants in China and are listed in the oldest Chinese Materia Medica, Shennong’s Herbal. Bupleurum was described as 'soothing liver and relieving constraint,' useful for improving liver health and improving emotional instability. Bupleurum contains saikosides, which strengthen liver function while protecting the liver from toxins. (Horne, 2016)
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) - The entire Dandelion plant is an excellent full body detoxifier with the roots being specific to Liver health. Dandelion has been frequently used to address different liver problems because of its rich composition in phytochemicals with demonstrated positive effects on the Liver.

"Liver chemistry is extraordinarily complex, and the role of the liver in human physiology is so fundamental to life that to researchers, the idea that simple plant remedies have something to offer might be laughable. This is unfortunate, because plants such as Taraxacum officinale (dandelion), Silyburn marianurn (milk thistle), and a variety of bitter tonic herbs provide a robust materia medica. Treatment with herbs is appropriate for a range of liver conditions, from dis-orders requiring only gentle liver stimulation to profound liver distress.
Bitter-tasting herbs play a special role in preventive medicine. The bitter taste triggers a sensory response in the central nervous system, which sends a message to the gut. The gut in turn releases digestive hormones that lead to a range of effects, including stimulation of appetite and a general stimulation of the flow of digestive juices. Bitters also aid the liver in its detoxification work, increase bile flow, and stimulate gut self-repair mechanisms." (David Hoffman, Medical Herbalism)
"We must get nutrition to and into our cells. The blood system and its highways (the vascular system) are the transport system. Most of the absorbed nutrition must first pass inspection by the liver, which can create further chemical changes, store nutrients, or pass them on unchanged to the rest of the body for utilization. The number of processes the liver can carry out is miraculous. It can create its own amino acids, change sugars to fats, and vice versa. It can create or destroy." (Dr. Morse)
Instructions: This formula consists primarily of potent medicinal roots, along with seeds and flowers. Roots should be steeped a minimum of 10 minutes in just boiled water. An infusion is also recommended, in which case the tea would be allowed to sit covered (I recommend a jar for this) overnight in order to draw out more medicinal properties. You can then sip on the infusion throughout the day, or add to your water and drink in a more diluted form. One to two teaspoons per 8oz of water is recommended, or to taste.
